Public Speaking Fears

I've never been a big fan of public speaking fears. I've always been very nervous and had this overwhelming feeling the audience was judging my every word. I now know how to overcome my fears and deliver a memorable presentation.

I just summarized for you the top 5 strategies I use to ensure that each presentation is a Showstopper.

90% of nervousness does not even show

The public can't usually see the telltale symptoms of nervousness. Butterflies, shake hands or sweaty palms. The key is you do not focus on them either. You should focus on the public. When you do these two things: 1) they will want more, and 2) much of the nervousness that you feel will disappear.

Don't avoid eye contact.

When we are nervous, it's a natural reaction to want to hide. When you are standing before a group of people, where are you hiding? You can't. Thus, you tend to look down or look away from your audience. If we can't see they can't we see, right? Wrong.

People try another trick is to look over the tops of their heads. The idea here is that, in the air a front of people, they will think you're looking at them. Another mistake.

You need to look directly at people. Sympathetic eyes. Create a report with the public through your eye contact. If someone smiles when you look at him, smiling. That you do, and the public more at ease and make your presentation more authentic.

Identify three people in the audience you want to talk: A on your left, one in front of you and the other on your right. Deliver your speech to three people. Check each for about 4-5 seconds, then switch targets to the next person. Don't maintain eye contact for too long. This will create an uncomfortable situation. You don't want to creep people.

Using this technique, it will give the overall impression of the audience that you are making eye contact, because you are scanning the room of your eyes.

Do not apologize.

Never start a presentation with an apology. Starting with an apology for your nervousness or have attention cold, you draw something the public may not have noticed. You also tell the public the presentation that you will receive is less than you deserve, but please don't blame me.

Avoid Rushing Monotone Voice.

A rapid monotone speech is a surefire way to make your audience feel unimportant. It will also cause them to lose focus and miss. How many conferences did you attend school listening to a professor drone on monotonously about everything he taught? How many of these conferences did you remember?

You don't want to subject your audience to the same torture and you want them to remember what you talked about.
You can easily avoid monotonous messages. Before saying a word to reflect on the value of your message. Reflect on the aspects that create passionate feelings. Remember to speak clearly with compassion. Smile. Tell you a joke & Take a deep breath

Limit your talk to a few key points.

Narrow your topic is a key point for a short interview, or three key points for a longer talk (an interview of more than 30 minutes). If my audience only remembered one thing from my speech, it would be the most important thing for them to remember. Most points of your presentation, the less public attention will have on each point. Once you have your key points, then create your PowerPoint slides.

If you remember these five key points, you're sure to knock em dead.
