Publicspeaking

A common advice to overcome public speaking fears is that you should ignore them. The idea is that if you do not recognize the presence of your fears, your fears cannot harm you. This sounds very plausible. This argument is also very logical. But your fear of speaking in public is very real and it can’t be wished away.

So, what can you do to overcome stage fright? You have to fight it out. The only way you can destroy an enemy is by fighting with him, not by ignoring him. But how does one fight stage fear? You need to create a force stronger than the fear of public speaking. This force is called attitude.

Attitude is a loosely defined and overused word. So, it may not impress you, if I say that attitude is the tool with which you have to fight your public speaking fears. Let me elaborate. Think of some situation in which you have performed well. If you are going to argue that you have not done anything that can be called good performance, then, my only suggestion will be that your public speaking can wait till you put in some good performance in some other area!

But the reality is that all of us would have done something that we are proud of. It need not be a big achievement. A small success in some activity will do. Thinking about past good performances will instantly boost your confidence. The mere recalling of a good performance in some competition, test or game will make your public speaking fears dissolve into thin air. Attitude is the way you look at things. A slight shift in attitude can make miracles. The thought ‘if I have done that, I can do this’ will shift the focus of your thinking. Confidence will take the place of fear.

Many powerful strategies are underrated just because they are very simple. This is one such. Let not the simplicity of this tip deceive you. Just follow it and you will see the results, for yourself.

The author got himself trained in Public Speaking the hard way. But the tips given by him on how to overcome Public Speaking fears are simple to follow and designed to get excellent results in a short time.
